Chicago Bears’ Sam Hurd Arrested on Federal Drug Crime Charges

Chicago Bears wide receiver Sam Hurd was recently arrested on federal drug crime charges.  Hurd was arrested after he was caught making a deal with undercover federal agents, authorities said.  The deal was set up at a restaurant in Chicago and involved supplies of 10 kg of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana a week for distribution.

According to federal investigators, they have been investigating Hurd since his days with the Dallas Cowboys and through his move to the Chicago Bears.  The criminal complaint against Hurd says that $80,000 worth of marijuana was found in his car, and that he attempted to enter into a deal amounting to more than $700,000 a week with federal undercover officers.

Hurd has maintained his innocence.  He was released from federal custody after he paid a $100,000 cash bond.  He has been charged with conspiring to distribute cocaine.  If convicted, Hurd is looking at a prison sentence of up to 40 years and fines of up to $2 million.

No New Jersey criminal defense attorney would deny the scope and the severity of the charges that Hurd faces.  The government can prove to be a tough, skilled and experienced adversary, so it is important to contact an experienced lawyer if you find yourself facing federal drug charges.
